Elsewhere, Zimbabwe recorded 342,210 common diarrhoea cases and 173 deaths in 2024._
Zimbabwe has recorded 91 malaria-related deaths so far this year, with cumulative cases reaching 39,956, according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
In the past week alone, 491 new malaria cases and three deaths were reported. Two fatalities occurred at Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare, while Murewa District in Mashonaland East recorded one. Children under five accounted for 64 of the new cases, representing 13.03%, the ministry said.
“Provinces reporting the highest number of cases were Manicaland (213) and Mashonaland Central (135). The cumulative case fatality rate (CFR) for malaria now stands at 0.23%,” the ministry added.
*Typhoid update*
For the week ending 8 December 2024, eight suspected typhoid cases were reported, all in Harare. Western District reported six cases, Northern District one, and Sally Mugabe Hospital one.
No deaths were recorded. The cumulative suspected cases now stand at 273, with no fatalities.
*Common diarrhoea*
A total of 7,019 common diarrhoea cases and two deaths were reported last week from Sally Mugabe and Parirenyatwa hospitals, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said.
Of these, 41.17% were children under five years old.
The highest case numbers came from Mashonaland East (1,052) and Mashonaland West (1,001). Cumulatively, Zimbabwe has recorded 342,210 common diarrhoea cases and 173 deaths in 2024.
