HARARE – Zimbabwe has recorded eight malaria-related deaths in the past week, with 3,304 new cases reported across the country, according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC).
The deaths were recorded in Mutare (2), Chimanimani (1), Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) (1), Makonde (1), Sanyati (1), Mpilo Hospital (1), and Sally Mugabe Hospital (1). Among the reported cases, 321 infections were in children under the age of five.
Manicaland and Mashonaland Central recorded the highest number of cases, with 1,939 and 484 infections, respectively. The latest figures bring the cumulative malaria cases in Zimbabwe to 19,278, with 52 deaths reported so far this year.
In a separate update, the ministry also reported 489 dysentery cases this week, though no deaths were recorded. Manicaland (123 cases) and Mashonaland West (83 cases) had the highest numbers. The cumulative total for dysentery now stands at 5,809 cases and three deaths.
Health authorities continue to urge communities to take preventive measures against both malaria and dysentery, urging early treatment and improved sanitation to curb further infections.
