War veterans have strongly backed Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, rejecting efforts to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term beyond 2028. Talks of extending Mnangagwa’s rule to 2030, especially in Masvingo where the “ED 2030” slogan emerged, have sparked internal party tensions. Zanu PF deputy secretary for youth, John Paradza, recently echoed these sentiments at a gathering in Dadaya, further igniting tensions within the ruling party. The newly formed General Chiwenga Voluntary Supporters Association, which represents ZIPRA veterans and various Zanu PF affiliates from Bulawayo and the Matabeleland provinces, issued a statement condemning Paradza’s remarks.
