Zim energy parastatal owed billions by mines, industry

ZESA is owed more than ZiG5.7bn by consumers , resulting in the power utility cutting back on electricity imports, ZESA Executive Chairman, Dr Sydney Gata said. “The imports have however been reduced as we do not have full capacity to service the arrears. We are owed in excess of ZIG 5.7bn by several customers,” Gata said. As of August 12, 2024, the mining industry owed the power company ZIG 684.8m , or 12% of the total debt, while industrial users owed ZESA 50% of the debt, or ZiG 2,8bn.
