Police in Bulawayo have arrested Bhekilizwe Nyathi from Nkayi who was found in possession of five stolen cattle.

The cattle were slaughtered and packed at the back of a van being taken to an undisclosed location.

Nyathi who was in the company of one other accomplice was apprehended by a member of the neighborhood watch committee.

Zimbabwe has witnessed a spike in livestock theft with a farmer in Banket recently losing 21 cattle to thieves, highlighting the urgent need for action.

The harsh economic hardships prevailing in the country has seen farmers far and wide largely affected losing livestock such as goats, sheep and poulty to criminals.

In African culture, livestock, particularly cattle, are regarded as a symbol of wealth where a man’s identity is often tied to his ownership of cattle.
